Re: HANA and R Integration

Hey Mubarak,

you should probably get rid of one of your (at least) two SCN accounts.

This would cut the work for you posting the questions and us reading them into half :-)

Now to your question: this is because SAP HANA expects to be the only major process on the system.

Once you start having other processes on the system that do more than let's say "daemon" work (you know: small memory footprint, barely CPU usage, low priority... that kind of stuff) it might severely impact SAP HANAs performance and stability.

What happens if memory paging starts? Yeah, well, SAP HANA is not build for that so response times may get really bad really quick.

What would happen if CPU resources are suddenly overused? Guess what, SAP HANA is totally CPU dependent and the performance may be severely impacted.

Therefore: it's not supported to have R on the same box.

What would be nice (my personal point of view) is to have the option for a real embedded R, so that R computations would actually run within the indexserver process.

Not sure whether this is something in the development pipeline, but that would be even better than having Rserve on the same node.

And while I am writing this: the current model also doesn't allow for multiple R servers - which might be a limiting factor...

- Lars
