First impressions on HANA Studio Revision 70 - plugin issues...

I've been trying to install and use HANA Studio revision 70 these past couple of days. It's been a mixed experience, to say the least.

Status so far: installed studio on 3 laptops; two running 64 bit Windows 7, the third is on 32 bit. While the 32 bit install seems to work OK (I haven't actually tried connecting it to an SAP NW system yet for ABAP development), the 64 bit version has critical issues.

The install itself goes fairly smoothly. The studio opens quickly; gone are the "hangs" on splash screen experienced with revision 68 and detailed in OSS note 1900069. The problem, however, is with the plugins for ABAP and UI5.

Firstly, after installing, the studio displays a nice popup stating that it intends to help us install any plugins I might have installed earlier (in the previous revisions). It lists the plugins for ABAP and UI5, with preselected checkboxes for the relevant ones.

Then, on the next screen, it immediately informs that there is an issue: the "ABAP Connectivity and Integration Development" plugin cannot be installed - due to some inexplained problem (presumably version or prerequisites). However, if we then select the option "Keep my installation the same and modify the items being installed to be compatible" - which seems the only viable option - the plugin install ultimately fails with the message "Installing software has encountered a problem".

The problem seems to be some missing components. These are listed, and most of them are in the osgi.bundle.org.apache libraries.

I'm not sure (yet) how to retrieve these, but will continue exploring. I wanted, however, to signal to SAP that there seem to be issues with plugins for revision 70, something which just adds to the list of problems currently reported with the HANA Studio from various contributors.

When I said the 32 bit plugin install worked, I mean (to be specific) that it reported the same issues with the ABAP connectivity plugin, but proceeded to install the remaining plugins - as opposed to its 64 bit twin. However, I have currently no option to hook it up to an ABAP system for checking whether this plugin is required or not. I can only guess it is... :-(

Regards,

Trond
