I'm unclear as to what level of connection issue you are having.  Can you confirm with yes/no the following.  All is related to your spot instance, and assumes your spot instance is running.

1. Do you get a successful browser SAP XSengine splash screen with <ip address>:8000 ?
2. In Hana Studio do you see your Hana system in the SAP Hana systems tab?
3. Are you able to launch SQL console for your Hana system?
4. Do you get a successful result set if you execute select count(*) from public.schemas in SQL console?
5. Do you get a successful result set if you execute SELECT * FROM PUBLIC.SCHEMAS in SQL console?
6. Can you expand to see development artefacts of the EPM demo content in the Hana repository tab?
